This new Bridgette structure was built on the existing timber piles, which as in most instances, were in sound condition below the natural surface.
Pile caps were formed using precast concrete "shells", which facilitated erection of the superstructure and enabled the new bridge to be built in around two weeks.
Abutments were reinforced earth with the precast walls incorporating Tensar geogrids. For ease of transport and handling, the 5.4m high piers were made as two identical columns with galvanized bolted connections at the top.
