Pile Load Tester
Nowadays sophisticated instrumentation and computer analysis is used to measure pile capacity, but the high cost and inconvenience limits its use. Hence most piles are still assessed by the traditional Hiley formula which measures the number of hammer blows for a given pile displacement, taking into account pile and hammer masses, height of fall, etc..
A much simpler way is to apply a pre-determined proof load using the Simple Pile Load Assessment Test (SPLAT). The device can be used repeatedly, with different settings covering the range of typical pile capacities in the construction industry.
The device is not expensive nor does it require instrumentation or specialist staff. It can either be retained as a permanent record of the test or reset and recalibrated for re-use.
